C. Ignacio Matos was admitted to the practice of law in Puerto Rico and joined Rexach & Picó in 2003, and since then has assisted clients with issues regarding insurance regulatory law as well as the Puerto Rico International Insurance Center. He has a B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico and a J.D. from the Interamerican University Law School. A member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel, he has focused his practice on advising intermediaries, brokers, agents, insurers and reinsurers doing business in Puerto Rico, and representing clients in all major segments of the industry, including property and casualty, life and health, reinsurance, and insurance holding companies. Sub practice areas have focused on service contracts, captive insurers and specialty international insurers and reinsurers. He has vast experience handling matters before the Office of the Insurance Commissioner of Puerto Rico, ranging from organization and authorization of new domestic and international insurers and reinsurers, authorization of foreign and alien insurers and reinsurers and subsequent regulatory compliance, licensing, application, preparation and submittal, product form and rates filings, and representation in regulatory enforcement actions, among others. He has also developed practice focused on Puerto Rico's International & Offshore Insurance and Reinsurers legislation, a platform for specialty insurers and reinsurers of US and non-US risks as well as for Latin American offshore operations. He has advised and supported captive insurers' governing bodies, including serving as member of the Board of Directors of such companies.
